Turning the towns teal in Jackson, SC and Aiken, SC

Post date: Aug 05, 2010 5:43:24 PM

Turn The Towns Teal® is a campaign to promote awareness of ovarian cancer and its symptoms. It consists of volunteers throughout the country tying teal ribbons in their towns and distributing symptom cards & literature pertaining to ovarian cancer. This all happens during the month of September which is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Turn The Towns Teal® supplied 4 rolls of ribbon and approximately 50 symptom cards for the Aiken and Jackson projects. Gail's Anatomy found the same shade of teal ribbon on-line from a firm in California and ordered an additional 18 rolls of ribbon - 100 yards/roll.

Imagine driving through the city of Aiken or the town of Jackson and seeing TEAL RIBBONS and lawn signs stating that September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Well guess what -- you can!! How exciting is this? Thanks to Alicia Curry, Gail's Anatomy worked with Turn The Towns Teal to promote ovarian cancer awareness during September! Mayor Etheredge in Jackson approved the request for vounteers to tie teal ribbons (which are biodegradeable and made in the USA). The Aiken City Council also approved the request! Turn the Towns Teal provided us with 4 spools of ribbon imprinted with several logos, and Gail's Anatomy purchased 6 more rolls of teal ribbon to match -- and have ordered 12 more rolls! Gail's Anatomy also designed and had printed (special thanks to Innovative Solutions!) 50 yard signs with metal holders and 75 11x17 window posters!

The first work day in Jackson and Aiken was on Saturday, August 28th and bows are continuing to pop up around town :) Special thanks to Dawn Johnson, Mary at Necessary Arrangements, Mary Grace Corbin and Lynn Sullivan for turning spools of ribbon into beautiful bows! Thanks to Alicia Curry for taking the lead in Aiken and her volunteer "teal fairies" - and to the "teal fairy" volunteers in Jackson! We braved the South Carolina heat and humidity to turn our towns teal!
