Newly crowned Miss USCA Caryn Farrell is using her title to spread awareness of ovarian cancer.

Following her win, Gail's Anatomy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ovarian cancer awareness, contacted Farrell.

"I was very excited about Gail's Anatomy, and I will just help them in any way I can, sort of like a spokesperson," she said. The Miss USCA pageant wasn't the first competition for the sophomore who is majoring in business management. She took part in the Miss South Aiken pageant her junior and senior years. Farrell was first runner-up and won best evening gown her senior year. As a freshman, she won the TKE Sweetheart pageant.

"Some people feel you have to be the most beautiful person in the world, but ... if you go up on stage and have fun and be yourself, really it's your inner beauty that says it all," Farrell said. Farrell also models. In 2004, she was on a billboard for the Aiken Chamber of Commerce and was a model for Model Productions in 2005, which lasted three years.

"Modeling was fun. Being on the billboard was awesome, and shooting different commercials was fun too," she said.

A devoted Christian, Farrell said she thinks before she acts and puts her morals first. Holly Scott, a sophomore business major, agrees. "She always picks people up when they need it and is very thoughtful," Scott said. After graduation, Farrell plans to use her degree to manage her own daycare or a similar business.
